Robert Mayer
Gordon-Conwell Seminary--Charlotte Senior Librarian
Charlotte, North Carolina
I am completing my 24th year as the library director for the Charlotte campus of Gordon-Conwell Seminary and will formally retire on June 30, 2021. I also serve as the head librarian for all four of our campus libraries. I was part of the local host committee for the ATLA 2013 convention held in Charlotte. And, I have served as chair for our local association, the Carolinas Theological Library Consortium. I was born and raised in San Francisco and was there for the 1960s. I follow the Giants baseball team and the 49ers football team. (I'm still bummed out about the fourth quarter of the 2020 Super Bowl. My wife Renee and I love concerts, Broadway plays, and movies. I listen to the Beatles every chance that I get. I'm an avid reader and am reading the new biography of Eugene Peterson by Winn Collier. Most of all, I take my Christian faith seriously and I read lots of theology and history. I think libraries are the greatest places to work. What better job if you love both books and serving students. After retirement, I will devote time to teaching (Church history) and to writing as I have several research/writing projects I hope to complete in the next few years.
